International momentum builds around Wild Salmon Day

Mark your calendars! Wild Salmon Day is just around the corner on 1st June 2025!

Wild salmon connect us across waters, cultures, and generations. But they’re in crisis, and they need our help to survive. On 1 June people across the Pacific and Atlantic will raise the flag for wild salmon. It’s a shared symbol of support – and a call for action to restore wild salmon and their habitats.

Wild Salmon Day took off in 2019 with leadership from the Government of British Columbia in Canada to celebrate wild salmon and raise awareness about the threats they face. In 2025, following the successful Wild Salmon Connections conference, the Atlantic Salmon Trust and the Atlantic Salmon Federation are joining the Pacific Salmon Foundation and First Nations Fisheries Council of BC to build international momentum for wild salmon recovery.

As well as celebrating the importance of wild salmon to people and the planet, International Wild Salmon Day promotes the Wild Salmon Declaration. This Declaration calls for urgent action and a renewed sense of purpose to arrest the decline and accelerate the recovery of wild salmon. The declaration was started by the Missing Salmon Alliance in an effort to bring together conservationists to save wild salmon.

On International Wild Salmon Day, let’s raise awareness about the threats they face. Help us raise the flag for wild salmon everywhere.
